Summary
Under the general supervision of the Police Chief and in coordination with the City’s IT leadership, this position is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of all technology systems utilized by the Sapulpa Police and Fire Departments. This includes mission-critical applications such as Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), mobile data terminals, digital forensics tools, and various integrated public safety platforms. The role also encompasses project management for system upgrades, user training, and interagency coordination during special events.
Essential Functions
- Serve as the primary administrator for over 25 public safety applications.
- Manage user access, perform system updates, and configure modules to optimize departmental workflows.
- Maintain system integrations, ensure data integrity, and perform performance tuning, including custom SQL scripting.
- Provide first-line technical support for approximately 70 department staff members.
- Maintain remote access systems.
- Configure and deploy laptops/tablets for patrol units, ensuring high uptime and seamless field connectivity.
- Lead IT modernization initiatives, such as 911 Dispatch Center redesign and rugged laptop deployments.
- Implement new technologies for officer and departmental use, including access control systems, label printers, and phone systems.
- Coordinate with vendors to implement hardware, network, and software upgrades.
- Develop and maintain the department website and oversee digital communications platforms.
- Deploy and support CAD and communication systems during special events and joint operations with external agencies.
- Represent the department at the CAD Users Conference annually to stay current with evolving best practices and system features.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
The work environment is primarily indoors within a professional office setting, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions during special events or on-site support.
Physical Demands
This role requires the ability to lift equipment, perform installations, and conduct system maintenance tasks, which may involve bending, stooping, or standing for extended periods.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional after-hours support on the weeknights and weekends.
Travel
Limited travel is expected for this position, including attendance at conferences and off-site training sessions.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Associate Degree from a two-year college or university.
- Two years’ experience and/or training in configuring, installing, and supporting personal computers, network operating systems, and associated automation applications.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience substituting four years’ experience for one year of education.
- Experience maintaining SQL databases.
- Valid Oklahoma Class “D” Driver License.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Prior experience in IT application systems management and/or IT system administration.
- Prior experience with law enforcement, fire, EMS IT, or military environments.
- Exposure to dispatch center operations or mission-critical system planning.
