Full-Time Animal Shelter Officer
Summary
Performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled duties necessary to properly maintain the animal shelter.

Essential Functions
Perform duties required to capture and impound stray or uncontrolled animals found or reported and pick up remains within the City of Sapulpa. Must have the ability to lift or assist with lifting up to 50 pounds.
Supply food, water, cleaning and personal care to detained animals, must be able to periodically move 50-pound bags of food.
Assist in euthanasia on unclaimed animals in a safe and humane manner and properly dispose of remains.
Maintain detailed records of field calls, adoption contracts, owner claims, animal releases and impounded animals.
Work closely with the public answering their complaints and determining the action to be taken. Screen applicants for animal adoptions according to established procedures and work with owners claiming lost or impounded animals.
Investigate animal cruelty and neglect charges, taking appropriate action as defined by state and local laws.
Investigate complaints, animal bite cases, aggressive animals and wildlife.
Issue citations for animal code or contact an officer to write tickets not related to the animal code, file documents with the District Attorney or City Attorney on cruelty charges or ordinance violations, assisting in proper documentation.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in an animal shelter and in the public. Exposure to tame, feral, injured and sick animals. Exposure to the elements.
Physical Demands
This is an active position with caring, capturing and handling animals.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Normal days and hours of work may vary.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Euthanasia certification.
- One or more years’ animal control or veterinary experience.
